Celler del Roure, Cullerot, Valencia

€18.99

Cullerot is another curio from Celler del Roure, with three almost extinct grape varieties, Verdil, Tortosina, and Merseguera, which are blended with some better known ones. The end result is a stunning and moreish wine that will make you wish that the search for long-lost grape varieties and the cultivation of great wines from these areas had begun many decades earlier.

After these grapes are picked (at about 600 metres above sea level) they are fermented and stay in contact with their skins for just a little time to extract more texture and complexity. They are then aged in clay amphorae for 6 months and almost no sulphur is added anywhere along the process.

The wine is a wonderful and colorful mix of its component parts, showing spice from PX and fresh floral notes from the Chardonnay with melon and lovely citrus notes from Verdil and Macabeo contributions. Finishing dry, yet round and smooth, it's a real wine of the soil and of the land.

If you like them interesting yet authentic, this is for you. If, however, you are just interested in really well-made wine, this is also for you!

Delicious and interesting range of wines delivered promptly to my door. Not far off that lovely feeling of coming back laden from a good wine store but without any of the traffic or the worry of breaking the wine en route (very impressive travel wrap).
