A rich, generous and full-flavoured Barossa Shiraz, Galway Vintage Shiraz is a real crowd pleaser, Barossa at its best and most accessible.
A generous nose of pepper, blackberry, chocolate mocha, and vanilla, opening up further with some liquorice and possibly a hint of violets. The palate is all about dark plums and sweet spices with soft, gentle tannins.
Where does the name Galway come from? No, not a marketing ploy for the Irish market, but it can't hurt, can it? No, Yalumba has been making this line under the Galway name since at least the forties.
This Galway Shiraz was named after the illustrious Sir Henry L. Galway, the governor of the state of South Australia from 1914 to 1920. Apparently, "a keen wine man" with a super palate and a regular visitor to Yalumba.
And the Galway wines were good, really good. Their success became the foundation on which future Yalumba reds were developed. Today, Galway is still made to quite a traditional style with rich, dark colours, benchmark Barossa spicy fruit and a perfectly balanced oak influence.
The grapes for the Galway Shiraz are sourced from a range of terroirs in vineyards across the Barossa. Some from sandy soils, others in red-clay earth, each contributing their own unique character to the wine.
