This is a fabulous wine that comes form the southern reaches of the best bits of Burgundy and is made and grown by the Leflaive family, who own the land and the treat it like it's Grand Cru Puligny. Richer than many of the northern village wines, it has a silky texture and flavours of ripe peach, melon and notes of toasted almond that are balanced by crisp fresh apple and integrated citrus acidity.

There are many wines in Macon and the Verzé village is growing in reputation. But this is a whole other ball game because the vines are owned and managed by Leflaive and that is indicated by the word 'Domaine'. The Leflaive name is one of the most famous and prestigious in the world of white Burgundy and this set of vines is therefore expected to deliver on par with the Leflaive's top wines. They use very traditional methods in the vineyard and winery, which are time consuming and expensive and are really only noticeable in outstanding vineyards. That means that even though this is a relatively lowly region, they make it as though it's Puligny Montrachet.

Which it isn't. But that's the point; they look at the soil and assess the potential in each of the vineyards that they own and then vinify it to the highest standards, which allows for the place of origin to be viewed by us, the consumer, through the lens of Leflaive. Which is some lens! You could think of it like Spielberg making a film using a Junior Cert project for the screen play... but in fairness, it would have been Seamus Heaney's project.

Delicious and interesting range of wines delivered promptly to my door. Not far off that lovely feeling of coming back laden from a good wine store but without any of the traffic or the worry of breaking the wine en route (very impressive travel wrap).
