Résonance, Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley, Oregon

This is the estate Pinot of the extra-ordinary winery established by Louis Jadot in the Willamette valley in Oregon.

The wine is sensational and though perhaps not as concentrated as the single-site wines, it offers an amazing array of complex flavours, from dark fruits to spices, all held in perfect tension in a wine that is never over-powering or cloying. A brilliant example of a premium wine style, classic wine-making and a world-famous region.

Flavours of red and black cherry with bright floral notes leading to fig and cedar flavours as this elegant wine develops into its seventh year. On the palate, the restrained wineshows brooding weight and subtle power with ripe red fruit and black cherry flavours, outlined by fresh minerality and balancing acidity.

This is an excellent example of how and why the wines from this region in the right hands can achieve such wonderful heights. It's also how and why premium Pinot Noir should be made and is significantly good value when compared to other world regions making wine from the same grape!

93 Points Wine Spectator, top 100 wines

Interestingly, both the Louis Jadot winery and the actual state of Oregon were established in the same year, 1859. This is a circular story between France and the USA, and in particular between the Jadot and Kopf families.

Rudy Kopf, a New York wine importer, became the first agent for Jadot wines in the USA in 1945. Such was the relationship and respect between the two families, that in 1984 Madam Jadot passed ownership of the whole Jadot business to the Kopfs.

Their joint search for a project outside Burgundy began in 2000 and it was in 2013 that their search took them to the Resonance vineyard in Oregon (note the spelling: no acute accent just yet...).

The wines from the vineyard were already great, but with the know-how of Jadot's Burgundy estate manager Pierre-Henry Gagey and his family (who had been running the show in the vineyards since the 1950s), a rocket was set off and the region suddenly had a brand new super-star winery.

The word Resonance, they say, evokes many great things to come. And retaining the letters, they changed it, when officially naming the winery, by adding the accent to the e (é), at once stamping French ownership and retaining international familiarity. Clever. A certain... Résonance.

Delicious and interesting range of wines delivered promptly to my door. Not far off that lovely feeling of coming back laden from a good wine store but without any of the traffic or the worry of breaking the wine en route (very impressive travel wrap).
