Cline, Big Break Vineyard Zinfandel 2018

Rich, full, heavy and powerful; this is a whopper of a wine that is delicious and dripping with red and black berry flavours, spice and structure to beat the band. Laced with exotic spice and nuance of eucalyptus and mint, there is a softer side to it that comes out with aging, but that's not what most people are looking for in this behemoth.

A massive Zinfandel that does exactly what it says on the tin, Big Break Zinfandel is always a robust wine and it's easily enjoyed young but it will also benefit from 5 to 7 years of cellaring.

There's a nice story behind the name too... The wine comes from a single vineyard that was named Big Break after a 1928 break in the levee that flooded the local farmland. When it was restored, only the best vines survived, and in replanting, the farmers copied what was already there, mainly Zinfandel. This area typically produces clearly identifiable bunches of Zinfandel on account of the combination of the extremely sandy, well-drained soils that are dry-farmed and often over a hundred years old. The cooling influences of the San Joaquin and Sacramento Rivers influence these vines too, maintaining some degree of sensibility.

Enjoy this wine with big, spicy foods with plenty of flavour, or a bag of crisps and Match of The Day.
