This bold and delicious Ribera del Duero comes from a very famous and respected estate in Burgos, where the old vineyards and traditional winemaking yield wines of elegance as well as power.
This definitely has both and is barrel aged to add flavour to its immense structure. Loaded full of delicious blackberry, blueberry and toasted oak flavours, there is a real sense of fruit weight that is all wrapped-up in a blanket of vanilla-oak. Very nice indeed!
Made from hand-harvested Tempranillo grapes, the wine is fermented with natural yeasts and aged for 14 months in 30% American and 70% French Oak barrels. Hitting a quite extraordinary level of alcohol, the Carrasco family know that a balance has to be achieved in the wine, which is why they ferment in concrete tanks before aging the wine in oak. This helps achieve the balance of fruit concentration, structure and oak, while seemingly keeping the alcohol in check.
It's delicious, but be careful!
