Box Of The Week: SIXTEEN!

€109.00 €130.00

IT'S BACK!

And ready for the week ahead, full of sunshine and a much-needed increase in temperatures!

And without wanting to tempt fate, it looks as though it'll be Barbecue weather for the weekend, so we're putting in our best favourite Barbecue wines for the return of the sun and the return of our wonderful Box of The Week!

Single Site Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough; Mouth-watering and tangy Txacoli from the Basque country; a literally Gorgeous Grenache Rosé; and an equally Gorgeous Grenache red; Rioja Tempranillo to fall in love with and a stunning red to treat and spoil ourselves with when the Barbecue ends and you head indoors - the broad, ripe and juicy Win Win Red blend from our friends in Von Winning in Germany.

The Box of The Week is part answer to the many questions that I still get on a fairly regular basis, like: "Chris, what's your favourite wine?" or "Chris, what are you going to drink this weekend?" or "Chris, have you got anything that's new?" or "What do you drink with this sort of weather?" or, quite often, "Hey, what are we bringing on holiday?"...

This is a chance for you to get inside my head and see what wines I'm really thinking about at this very moment in time.

Made of the wines that I can see would make a brilliant wine-tasting, or that may have been overlooked, or under-sold... or a combination of all these and more, this is going to be the place where you're most likely to find the odds and ends that I've become rather keen on picking up - they never last long!

In this week's box it you'll get six bottles, one bottle of each of the following:

1.  Bodegas Ameztoi, Txacoli de Getaria

Want fresh and bright to kick off the summer? Well, this will certainly deliver that! Utterly delicious and full of nervy energy from the north of Spain; this refreshing wines is bottled immediately after fermentation, trapping some of the carbon dioxide in it to add extra spritzy fun!

2. Earthsong, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Single Site Sauvignon from the ultra-cool Marlborough subzone of Dillon's Point. This area is where the best growers source their grapes, and our chums have a whole vineyard of the stuff that goes into this delicious bottle. Way, way better than the competition and way, way better than it's price point.

3. Thistledown, Gorgeous Grenache Rosé

Made with old Grenache vines that give grapes pressed as gently as possible, this wine stays in contact with its skins for just a few hours to give wonderfully generous flavours of strawberry and cream, citrus and blossom flavours. Quite literally gorgeous.

4. Thistledown, Gorgeous Grenache

Made with old Grenache vines... yes, even some of the same as the Rosé, but with full maceration of the skins to extract colour, flavour and structure! Grenache like this has a really yummy sweet spot at its core, making it excellent with food and good weather - surely one of the must-haves at any Barbecue.

5. Finca Manzanos, Rioja Tempranillo

The Manzanos' family winery is hugely successful and important in the north east of Rioja, where the new Rioja Orientale subzone has been created. This Tempranillo is superb - fully ripe and generously fruity, with enough oak to make it feel familiar and smooth. If you haven't had this yet, now's the time...

6. Von Winning, Win Win Red

A broad, generous, smooth and rich red from one of the warmest regions in Germany, this is a surprisingly smooth and Bordeaux-esque red that is a blend of native German grapes and Merlot, making it somewhat like a German St Emilion... It is absolutely delicious and, though it's pricey, it's worth every penny. And now's your chance to get it for cheap!

A gorgeous box of delights - make sure you grab one before they're gone!

Usual caveat applies: if we are out of stock of a specific wine, we will replace it with one of the same value or higher, equally delicious and as close in style as we can make it.

Delicious and interesting range of wines delivered promptly to my door. Not far off that lovely feeling of coming back laden from a good wine store but without any of the traffic or the worry of breaking the wine en route (very impressive travel wrap).
