From the Entre-deux-Mers area of Bordeaux comes the second edition of a fabulous, delicious and super-cool red made from 100% Organic Merlot grapes. Youthfully bright with some development as it approaches its fourth birthday, this is made with old vines Merlot and has gorgeously broad almost fat, lush tannins.
The excellent 2020 was the first vintage made without the addition of Sulphur and it is a shining example of doing so, at the right time in the winery's own journey.
Juicy blackcurrant, ripe stone-fruit and damsons, with fresh herbs, wonderfully knit together and bursting out of this wine. It's a glass of immediate joy and sunshine, masquerading as a seriously stylish Bordeaux, bottle after bottle.
Lovely cartoony label to boot, this is a special and limited chance to get the mid-level price point from the Barrault family.
Hand-harvested and farmed with immense care and attention to detail, these grapes are grown in vineyards that are some of the highest in the region, sharing land with plots of Malbec and Cabernet Franc.
Hélène and David Barrault purchased Château Tire Pé in 1997 and have been farming organically since 2008, achieving certification in 2014. Their 13 and a half hectares of vines is poly-cultivated with wild grasses, insects, birds, bees and small fury chaps living side by side amongst the grapes, which is not very common in Bordeaux...
The slopes face south and the soils are typical clayey-limestone giving grapes of ripeness and aromatic interest, complexity and (if you farm like these guys) elegance and refinement.
