Domaine des Gerbeaux, Pouilly Fuissé
This will change your opinion of two things: Chardonnay and Pouilly Fuissé. Both suffer from reputational damage of poorer versions.
However, all of the wines from the Drouin family are simply stunning and this single site wine is excellent white Burgundy at a very keen price.
Minerality, gorgeous grapefruit, white summer flowers aromas. Then, on the palate, citrussy fresh fruit, a hint of spice and a lovely roundness which fills out toward the finish.
Domaine Des Gerbeaux is owned and run by the Drouin family, who started this particular Domaine way back in 1979. However, the Drouin family have been making wine here in Burgundy for more than one hundred years.
Jean-Michel and Béatrice Drouin are making, we think, some of the best wines in the Mâconnais, but in really limited quantities.
Like many in Burgundy, vineyard ownership isn't centred on one big plot. The Drouins have six hectares (about 14 acres) of vineyard sites spread across small pockets throughout the Mâcon, St. Véran, Pouilly, and Solutré Appellations.
