Domaine Rapet, Savigny-les-Beaune 1er Cru, "Aux Fournaux"
Sensational Burgundian wine-making. Though that alone should win you over, this wine really is very good indeed.
Savigny is to the north of the town of Beaune and the vineyards lie in the shadow of the great hill of Aloxe Corton.
This particular vineyard gives a wine that, in Rapet's hands, is elegant, subtly powerful with flavours of Morello cherries, blackberries and raspberry, with a long, silky finish.
The vines are, after all, 50 years old. The name 'Fournaux' comes from remnants of Roman kilns found in the vineyard during excavations.
