Description

Structured, balanced and medium-full bodied, this is a St Emilion worthy of Grand Cru status, even though it's actually the second wine of the estate! Flavours of bramble, berry and developing cedar and some leather spice are delivered on the gently pushy palate, making this a wine fit for excellent food or even very little.

Dating from the late eighteenth century, Chateau Bellefont-Belcier, the parent property, is at the north of the St Emilion zone, where it makes Grand Cru Classé wines. Its name allegedly comes from Belle Fontaine, meaning 'beautiful spring’ (a reference to the numerous springs near the property) and to its founder, the Marquis of Belcier. The Marquis de Bellefont is a suitable elision of the two, turned around.
