In this case of six, we have stunning wines from Spain but not one of them is red!
Continuing our excellent Vina Real case, this is a bit of a "first-bottle/second-bottle" case:
Maruxa, Godello stunning white from the north of Spain; ultra-trendy with the restaurants (don't you know) and a gorgeously fresh glass for when you need it.
Pagos del Galir, Godello - like the above, only really more intense, textured and complex... very yummy.
Cantos de Valpiedra, Rioja Crianza - our Reserva-killer, this is gorgeous and elegant at the same time and would work for absolutely everyone.
Vina Pomal, Rioja Reserva - old-school Reserva in excellent hands and wonderful vineyards. A new feather in the cap and made from 100% Tempranillo.
Maruxa, Mencia - Mencia that is full of crunchy red berries and lip-smacking freshness. Get this ready for the (guaranteed) warm Spring and summer months.
Pagos de Galir, Mencia - barrel aged Mencia that is delicious and stunning value for money.
What's the difference?
Well, glad you asked.
The Riojas are Crianza and Reserva, which means that they have different legal aging requirements: a Crianza must be aged for two years before being sold: with a minimum of one year in oak barrels; a Reserva must be aged for at least three years; with a minimum of one year in oak and the rest in the bottle.
The Maruxa and Pagos wines are different by the concentration levels in the bottles and the aging as well: oak and lees for the Pagos; fresh tanks only for the Maruxas!
These are delicious wines, all of them, and I am sure that as well as feeling happy in the familiar company of the Rioja wines, you'll love the freshness and interest of the wines from Valdeorras - they are really, really good.
If we are out of stock of a specific wine, we will replace it with one of the same value or higher, equally delicious and as close in style as we can make it.
