A delicious, rich full-bodied red, this is loaded with blackberry, plum and toasty spice flavours, all balanced with juicy fruits on the finish. This is very much a New World Shiraz, but one that is so well-made that there is no hint of it being over-done or too heavy, or too much to finish a glass.

That's because St Hallett are one of the best protagonists and longest-running producers of Shiraz from the Barossa valley. Established in 1944, they have continued to produce wines through thick and thin, all the time working to get the best Shiraz fruit from their Barossa vines. Old vines in particular have been their focus in recent years and retaining gnarled Shiraz plants that yield small quantities of fruit, provides them with really high quality grapes, even if the yields are smaller.

The result is that because of the varied plots and ages of the vines, St Hallett have a wide range of wines to sell, which is really good for us, as it means that we don't only have to buy the very expensive ones!

This wine gets its name from the leap of faith shown in the early 19th Century by the original members of the Lindner family, whose descendants established the winery in the '40s, in settling in the Barossa. Now in the fifth generation, St Hallett really is one of the old-school wineries, meaning not that the wines feel old, but that they maintain older practices, which in themselves almost necessitate fresh, vibrant and relevant qualities in the wines.
