Gruner Veltliner white grape

Get your groove on with these Grüner Veltliner Austrian white wines

Grüner Veltliner is the most planted grape variety in Austria. Despite the difficulty in pronouncing its name, it has achieved global acclaim recognition and popularity in the last 5 years or so, although it has been knocking around the wine world since the 1950s.

For me, Grüner Veltliner is just a fantastic grape variety that goes perfectly with food.

It's gorgeously textural, semi-aromatic, and it often contains culinary-type flavours like tarragon, sage, oregano and white pepper.

When young, Grüner Veltliner can be really zippy and tangy, similar to Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling. With a little age it gets rounder and can be compared (and can surpass Chardonnay from Burgundy - borne out in comparative tastings!

While restaurants and wine shops might typically have one, perhaps two on their lists,

For food matching, this is another culinary delight and will pair wonderfully well with seafood, poultry, salads and is wonderful with pork dishes.
