New in: Wines from La Rioja Alta
I'm delighted to introduce the wines from a top Rioja winery, possibly one of the best in the world, without exaggeration.
La Rioja Alta blends tradition with modern technology, crafting elegant, approachable wines like their Reserva and Gran Reserva.
These limited production wines are exquisite, offering exceptional value.
La Rioja Alta, Viña Alberdi Reserva
The La Rioja Alta, Viña Alberdi Reserva is one of the iconic wineries of the region.
A real joy and I'm delighted to be able to offer it. Made from 40-year old Tempranillo vines, this is a hand-made and super-premium Rioja that offers a wealth of tradition and history at a superb price. A superb balance of acidity, power and elegance, this is full of concentration of fruit flavour and has structure enough to age and develop in the cellar (if you have the patience).
La Rioja Alta, Viña Ardanza, Reserva 2017
A truly iconic wine of Rioja, the Viña Ardanza Reserva represents time-honoured traditions, modern excellence and some of the greatest grape and vineyard sourcing in the world; you're in for a real treat.
It is a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha, coming from 30 and 40-year-old vineyards respectively that are some of the most desirable plots in the whole region.
La Rioja Alta, Viña Arana, Gran Reserva 2016
The Viña Arana Gran Reserva is definitely age-worthy while also offering incredible drinking pleasure from the moment it is released.
In its 50th Anniversary bottling, this is a stunning wine that balances freshness with intensity, body and sophistication.
Made from a blend of 95% Tempranillo and 5% Graciano, the grapes are grown on vines with an average age of 60 years, that come from some of the most sought-after vineyard areas in the whole of Rioja, let alone the Rioja Alta subzone.
They really do get the pick of the best sites: they demand it because they are so important: they are so important because they are just so good.
La Rioja Alta, 904 Gran Reserva
The 904 Gran Reserva is about as special a bottle as you'll find. The winery themselves describe it as an ideal wine for the most special occasions and celebrations.
ChrisThey recommend it with meat, seafood and chocolate desserts and mention that it's best without spicy food, finishing up by saying that it is ideal as an after-dinner drink. They're our kind of winery. Some of the scores the 904 Gran Reserva
