Château Lagrange, Lussac Saint-Émilion 2022

A delightful Bordeaux from the outskirts of the famed UNESCO town of Saint-Émilion, this red is medium-full bodied and full of dark berry fruits, integrated spices, vanilla notes and a good whack of juicy tannins that give a broad structure and a long, flavour-filled finish.

Were this property in a field just a few kilometres away, it would doubtless be hugely more expensive. This is, in part, simply because the appellation of Lussac-Saint-Émilion is considered to produce wines of lesser quality than Saint-Émilion itself. Now, there may well be genuine claims that the controls in Saint-Émilion are justified and that their unique soils and microclimates are likely to yield better wines, but in truth... this is every bit as good as many Saint-Émilions and, let's be crystal clear, many Saint-Émilion Grand Crus. So, grab a bargain - totally representative of the broad, ripe right bank of the Garonne and a very fine bottle for a weekend!
