This is a delicious Bordeaux that proves the worth of looking slightly outside from the main region to find a source of wonderful, juicy, smooth and rewarding wines. This is one of those, full of charm and quality, soft black fruit underpinned by red berry freshness. This is deceptive in its youth, showing like a wine that is five or six years old, which is impressive in itself.
Made from 20-year old Merlot vines in the hilly region just 7km to the north of the village of Saint-Emilion, this Château benefits from excellent exposure to the sun (it faces south) while gaining cool freshness from its hillside location. The result is a wine that will be excellent with a wide range of cuisine, from casual dining to big celebratory feasts.
Medium-full bodied, this has soft and supple tannins with a long, fruit-filled finish, only with light notes of oak and subtle spice. It's a very compelling wine at a very, very good price.
