Finca Carelio, Chardonnay

€1650

This is a gorgeous white wine, that happens to be made from Chardonnay and happens not to come from Chablis or Burgundy or the south of France, BUT is a wine that delivers much of the characteristic qualities of those more celebrated regions! It's bright a fresh, dry and really attractively flavoured with green apple, blossom and notes of melon and greengage.

A great alternative to Chablis or Limoux, this is a rare Chardonnay from Spain and is the result of winemaking teams looking for high-quality grapes within an area that affords excellent value and quality to those who seek it out. They are blessed here in the Fuente di Pedro zone of the greater Castille-e-La Marche district in north and west Spain because of the coolness from altitude and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean as well as the warmth from the central Spanish continental land mass. It's a different, perfect balance.

With a delightful and delicately perfumed nose, the wine delivers freshness and roundness with seemingly paradoxical ease, yet this is the hallmark of the best way to handle Chardonnay - and these guys have played a blinder, in a place that one might not expect.

It's great stuff!

A last note; the label is taken form a very large etching and changes each year where a different part of the etching is used and coloured highlights put in. It's pretty cool as far as we think!
