Musar Jeune White, Bekaa Valley 2020

One of the most significant wines to come from Lebanon and one of the most-loved to boot, this is wine from a region that has a very long history of wine production from the wedding of Canaa in Galilee to the Irish forces helping ferry the grapes from vineyard to winery over the front-line during Lebanon's 15-year Civil War.

This is a land that has incredible natural richness; Musar itself is blessed with iron-rich red soils that support vines with vivid green growth and grapes that ripen perfectly with the benefits of a large diurnal temperature range.

First produced in 2007, the Musar Jeune range are unoaked, vibrantly fruity wines, made from the fruit of youthful Bekaa Valley vines, and were introduced to meet the demand for a ‘current drinking’ Musar range. 

Made from the fruit of vines planted since 2000 from organically certified vineyards at around 1,000m above sea level in the Bekaa Valley, the Musar Jeune White is an unoaked blend of Viognier (40%), Vermentino (30%) and Chardonnay (30%). The Vermentino, native to Sardinia and Corsica and thus well suited to the Eastern Mediterranean climate, adds citrus, mineral and even a marine character. It is moderate in alcohol and combines well with the richer Chardonnay and fragrance of the aromatic Viognier. Crisp and aromatic, this eclectic blend of French and Italian varieties has its own distinct personality – passionfruit, apples, elderflowers – and a dry, refreshing finish.

Pale yellow-gold with aromas of yellow and orange citrus fruit, pineapple, with an underlying note of refreshing minerality. The palate has gorgeous flavours of lemon and tangerine, stone fruit and honey, balanced by freshness and a delicious, weighty mouthfeel. It's really impressive in its individuality and is possibly best enjoyed with simple, honest and fresh Mediterranean cuisine. We were really impressed and found it to be an instant friend. Very tasty indeed.
