Domaine Maurice Charleux, Maranges Vielles Vignes, Rouge 2022
Domaine Maurice Charleux, Maranges Vielles Vignes, Rouge 2022 is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
This is another brilliant, tense, fruit-forward yet layered Pinot Noir that is outstanding value for money given its provenance (old vines Villages-level from the Cote d'Or) and also, put plainly, its brilliant quality.
Medium bodied and full of a blend of bramble and ripe summer fruits, laced with elegant spices from the subtle oak ageing. Structurally delicious too, the fine-grained tannins support juicy body, underpinned by excellent acidity, making it a very attractive wine indeed.
Maurice Charleux is a superb Burgundian winemaker and is interestingly skilled in both disciplines of red and white.
In his home turf at the south of the Cote d'Or, you meet, in turn, the towns of Santenay then Maranges. These give him a superb array of colours from which to paint (in bottle) these stunning wines, from an array of single vineyards and small plots that excel whether in 1er Cru, old vines categories or village-level: the generosity of this winery is something to be noted so that you buy them when you see them!
