Domaine Thulon, Beaujolais Villages Nouveau, 2025

€1899

This is a Beaujolais Nouveau really worth getting excited about!

Made from grapes that only from the Cru Villages in Beaujolais, this is a very high-quality wine and just happens to have been made from the harvest that was finished about three weeks ago, just before the wine was bottled. It is a bright, juicy and fresh, with flavours of blackberry, bramble and cherries, this is very much a celebration of the harvest, but not at the end-of-the-barrel sort of level.

This is a very classy Beaujolais Nouveau, made by a real champion of the most important of Villages, Morgon. In fact, this wine comes from many of the younger Morgon vines as well as other villages - it's like standing on the threshold...

This Nouveau is deeper and broader because it isn't from the generic land around the villages, but from the villages (Cru Villages these days of course, which really does increase the quality) creating a much higher quality wine at the end.

This Beaujolais will have high levels of ripe fruit flavour, low acidity and will be very easy to finish in one go.

Funny label? I remember when Thulon used to have a plain cerise pink label for this wine. And a sort of riff of the comic sans font for the lettering: it was pretty horrific. Baby steps. Grateful for small mercies I suppose...
