An attractive and wonderfully juicy Valpolicella made by one of the most important families in the Veneto. Packed full of mature cherry and plum flavours, this is mouthwatering, generous and vibrant. A gorgeous wine from one of Italy's most successful and beloved regions.
This is a half bottle of Veronese delight.
Nestled in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico zone, Allegrini have been cultivating vineyards here for centuries, but originally just selling grapes rather than wines. It wasn't until the 1970s that Giovanni Allegrini began bottling the estate's own production, which has been passed on to his children, Walter, Marilisa, and Franco. Since then, they have become one of the leading lights of the region.
Some wines shout; others sing softly. Allegrini’s Valpolicella Classico is the latter: a quiet but confident voice that tells the story of its land with no fuss. It’s a wine that holds the hills of Valpolicella in its heart, and year after year offers a snapshot of the season.
It is quite simply delicious. It dances on the palate with a gentle zing from the fresh acidity, keeping things lively, while the soft and supple tannins do their job quietly, holding the structure without ever pushing. It’s precise, not precious. And though this wine was made for food, it would itself be a very pleasant companion to warm summer's evening.
In a world of overstatement, this Valpolicella is a reminder that sometimes, simplicity speaks loudest.
