This is the gorgeous estate wine of a very, very successful and worthy winery called Tiki, based in their new sustainable winery in North Canterbury. It is classic New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, with bright, mouthwatering acidity, crunchy freshness, and packed with green apple, kiwi and nettle flavours.
The Tiki estate was originally based in Marlborough, and this wine was one of their key facets and selling points for years. Then the demand for Sauvignon Blanc and more difficult growing conditions forced them to consider their entire model and has landed them with these choice vineyards in the Waipara valley (Waipara translates and Maddy Water or something similar, which we like because winemaking is a bit like that...!).
This has done wonders for their business, for the wines that they make here (giving them a whole new identity and personality) and for the Waipara and Canterbury regions. It's a very good news story and the wine is a really gorgeous and refreshing take on the New Zealand classic.
