Jancis and her designer, Richard Brendon, wanted to produce decanters as part of their collaboration, recognising that the sort of decanter for young wines can be very different from what's required for older wines.
For old wines, decanting is needed to separate the mature wine from any sediment and then, to minimise contact with air. Hence this design, with a narrower, less generous decanter, again echoing the shape of her wine glass, with a stopper. You use it, or the young wine decanter, depending on how fragile you feel the wine is.
