This is a gorgeous wine that always been a consistent reference point for entering the world of fine wine, in particular those of Italy and more specifically the Tuscan coastal area of Bolgheri.
This delicious, generous and vivid red is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese and is hugely versatile for matching food, while remaining charming enough to enjoy on its own. Red fruit flavours leap out of the glass that then lead to subtle warming spices and depth on the palate, that has generous, well-balanced and integrated tannins with supporting acidity to foster huge enjoyment in each glass.
It does what other wines in this excellent category achieve, which is to put a smile on your face with every glass, yet at a very approachable price point!
Each of the grapes brings a different part to the wine: Cabernet has dark fruit, structure and tannin, while Merlot has mid-palate weight, generosity and smoothness, allowing for Sangiovese to add Tuscan flavour, brighter acidity and delicious flavours of cherry and spice. Each variety is fermented separately in stainless steel tanks to preserve freshness, followed by malo-lactic fermentation before ten months of ageing in a combination of ex-Ornellaia casks (to add some oak influence and some characteristics of that sensational wine) and concrete tanks (to give a delicious mouthfeel and softer tannic structure).
