Joyful and far superior to the Verdicchio of old, this is a really delightful and complex wine that comes from organic vineyards in the east of Italy. Fresh and crisp on one hand, it has fruity richness and nutty complexity on the other. Excellent with food.

Fattoria San Lorenzo is run by Natalino Crognaletti and the estate is at the forefront of the revival of both red and white wines from the region. The reds are Rosso Piceno in origin and the whites Verdicchio.

This wine is named Gino after Natalino’s father, who worked the vineyards before him, taking particular interest in the clonal selection of Verdicchio vines. His attention to detail continues in Natalino who makes this wine with natural yeasts and fermentation in concrete vats, before 6 months of aging on fine less.

I love Verdicchio because when it's good it really has a sense of Italian cuisine about it; almost like a herbaceous kitchen smell or bouquet garni, it seems that it reflects the terroir in which it is grown and when handled properly, it delivers something that is really, really lovely.
