Château Tanunda Newcastle, Barossa 2016

€17.99 €23.99

A delicious, full-bodied red, Château Tanunda's Newcastle combines a classic and mouthwatering combination of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault  to create a Barossa red blend similar in style to which you might find in the best appellations of the Rhône Valley.

Australian Châteauneuf du Pape? Well, close but not quite.

This wonderful wine is full of the breadth, generosity and polished swagger that so many of the very finest old-Australian estates offer. Smooth, rich and really impressive with its aged and complex flavours, this is a wine that is expressive of many different points in the world of wine. The heritage of the Château itself and its rich history in Barossa; the aptitude of Barossa's soils to propagating the Rhône varieties (and Syrah in particular); the extraordinary affinity that Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Cinsault have for each other in blending; and the climatic peculiarities that South Australia has, which separates in from the conditions in the Rhône. Loads to think about in a wine that is, at first and last, really very tasty.

Château Tanunda is one of the best known and best loved estates in the
Barossa Valley, some might even say that it is the birthplace of Barossa having been established since 1890. The wines are classic interpretation of this famed region: rich, ripe, concentrated and intense.

This particular allocation that we have is from the 2016 vintage, making it about 7 or 8 years old. Unusual but evidence that these wines can age like those from any of the great, classic regions!

Delicious and interesting range of wines delivered promptly to my door. Not far off that lovely feeling of coming back laden from a good wine store but without any of the traffic or the worry of breaking the wine en route (very impressive travel wrap).
