Bodegas Matsu, a Trio from Toro

€88.97

This trio from Matsu gives the lucky recipient the chance to compare and contrast the nuanced and different styles you get from the same grapes.

The difference? Well, there's a few; from younger to older vines (over 110 years old), different vintages, and from differing storage durations in oak, from none with 'El Picaro', 14 months for El Reciothrough to 16 months for 'El Viejo'.

A study, if you will.

In this pack, you get one bottle of each of:

  • 'El Picaro': the strength, the sassiness and the courage of youth. No oak barrels here, just two months of aging on its lees in concrete tank.
  • 'El Recio': A perfect balance between youth and maturity. From 90 year old Tinta de Toro vineyards, the wine spends 14 months in second use oak, soft edges here, no harsh ones.
  • 'El Viejo': the older one, a selection of only the best grapes from vines which average 110 years of age. 16 months in new French oak barrels. Extremely limited production. Rare and rich stuff.

Region: Toro

Country: Spain

Grape(s): Tempranillo

Style: Smooth, Organic, Full, Fruity, Dark, Creamy, Complex, Broad, Balanced

Best food matches: Venison, Tapas, Steak, Pork, Pizza, Pasta, Mature Cheeses

Alcohol: 14.5%

Delicious and interesting range of wines delivered promptly to my door. Not far off that lovely feeling of coming back laden from a good wine store but without any of the traffic or the worry of breaking the wine en route (very impressive travel wrap).
