From one of The Allotment's favourite wineries comes this stunning, bright, mouthwatering and truly charming Rosé!
Vibrant and fresh, with flavours of strawberry, pink grapefruit and summer fruits, the palate is dry and tingly but with generosity and class. Summer in a glass!
It is made from a field blend of 25% Merlot, 25% Sankt-Laurent, and 50% Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), which reflects the heritage of their farming origins where everything that could grow and prosper, should be used for the collective good. It's also a marker that shows how much they value the quality of this wine by putting in such a high quantity of Pinot Noir.
I went to this estate in 2011 and had I not gone, it's quite possible that the subsequent love for grapes and wines might have gone off the boil all together and the Allotment wouldn't have sprouted up at all.
Just after Easter time, a small group of us went into the Geil family's picturesque walled garden in the warm noonday sun for picnic lunch. All the trees were still decorated with little hand-painted Easter eggs and the whole setting was just gorgeous.
Then they poured the wines... they all seemed to unforced and natural; charming and true. That was the take-home sentiment and rallying call to champion the intrinsic goodness that is achievable in the wine industry: this uplifting positivity is still at the heart of The Allotment today.
That was one day from a four day trip and the other visits were just as good, honest and true. The trip focussed on Riesling, of course, but there were other lovely highlights and two in particular that were unexpected: Rosés! This being one and Wagner Stempel's being the other and if you've ever wondered if I like Rosé, then read up about that wine. I love good wine, and good Rosé is good wine. This particular Rosé from Geil has only recently been made available and I am very glad that it is - so here's a few euro off to get you to meet a new friend...
