A brilliant example of high quality, fine sparkling wine from Spain.
Fresh and crisp green apple flavours with notes of apricot, brioche and salt, the palate develops ripe pear, passion-fruit and tropical notes with a a bright, layered and textural mouth-feel. The finish is flavourful and long with toasted hazelnuts and brioche leaving you wanting another glass, which is always a good thing.
It's excellent with food, too, pairing with soft cheeses, fresh seafood and salted almonds to perfection. Excellent value for money, this is high-quality, honest, versatile, and very well-made.
Made from the "Cava trilogy" of grape varieties, Macabeo, Parellada and Xarel-lo, this wine is from Cava's heartland for top quality in the Penedès region. This is dry clean and complex Cava and is made using the traditional method - fermented once in tank, then again in bottle - and aged for up to two years before release.
This is another convincing reason as to why Cava has such relevance in a sparkling wine market often dominated by Champagne.
First launched in 1969, Segura Viudas is based in Torrelavit, in the heart of the Penedès wine region, just outside Barcelona. The winery is set amongst an array of historic buildings, with some dating back to the 11th century. Originally a military watchtower, the site became a Catalan farmhouse in the 13th century. By the 1980s, the estate had earned such a high reputation for producing top-quality Cava that it was bought by the Barcelona-based Ferrer family and to this day, continues to focus on careful, traditional winemaking, working with respect for the land and its long history.
