Vale do Homem, Vinho Verde 2024

€1399

A glass of Portuguese sunshine, this is an authentic, charming and amiably direct wine with generous flavours of citrus fruits highlighted by floral notes and a zingy, mouthwatering acidity that will make you keep coming back for more!

It easily sits in the category of the wines that we feel is a real find from amongst the overlooked sections of the many wine lists we peruse, and we are very chuffed to have found it for you!

Plus it's only 11% alcohol!

Bottled very quickly after fermentation finishes, there is a light spritz at first opening that yields to vibrant fruit and a an engaging palate set up perfectly for food.

Grown in vineyards in the northern region of Vinho Verde at the border of Portugal and Spain, this is reminiscent of some wines made from Albariño, just over the way into Galicia, but without using that grape at all! That's the proof (if it were needed) of the importance of location, soil and climate. It's similar to the north of Spain, of course, and many of the winemaking traditions have been shared between the countries for centuries. It's a family winery with father (Nuno) and son (Antonio) in charge of the vineyards and harvest with Grandmother (Nuno's mum) running the winery's restaurant kitchen... the winery has been run for many years by Ana, who isn't officially part of the family, but who really, practically, is.

Made in stainless steel vats, the wine is kept a low temperatures to retain aromatic flavours and is then bottled immediately after the fermentation has finished so that the carbon dioxide produced by the ferment can be captured in the wine, where it dissolves until the wine is opened. Gorgeous!
